Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."
The Move Your Way theme inspired Lakewood’s Active Aging staff committee to help residents not only experience movement in the physical realm, but also spiritually, emotionally, intellectually and socially. Excitement filled the air on day one as residents gathered for the Ready Aim Fire and Hula Hooping event, where surprising talents emerged, proving that precision knows no age. The week continued with SoulCollage, a creative session that fostered deep connections as residents crafted personal collages and shared heartfelt stories. Midweek brought the thrill of Geocaching. Despite a few initial missteps, residents mastered the map, uncovering hidden treasures and celebrating each discovery. The artistic journey continued with The Art of Music: A Symphony in Color, where residents painted interpretations of Haydn’s Symphony No. 6, letting the music guide their creativity. Despite the weather delay residents experienced a breathtaking “Be Transported”, helicopter ride. For many, it was a first-time experience, while for others, it brought back cherished memories. The adventure offered stunning views, leaving everyone with smiles and stories to share. Reflecting on the week, it was clear that age is no barrier to adventure or joy. We embraced the mantras; memories are to be made, and the journey never ends.
