Messiah Lifeways, a CCRC in Mechanicsburg, PA, celebrated Active Aging week this year with a series of more than 50 classes and activities focused on physical, social, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, vocational, and environmental domains of wellness. More than 100 participants attended, including residents in all levels of care (from independent living, to personal care, and nursing) and Wellness members who live off-campus in the local community. The offerings included Caregiver Workshop offered by Hospice of Central PA, a presentation on wild edible plants, a “Breathing to Calm the Mind” seminar, a Latin dance class, disc golf, hymn singing with the chapel choir, tai chi, balloon games, and a drumming class. An array of aquatic classes such as water volleyball, power aquatics, and aqua yoga were the most popular among attendees. In the feedback survey, attendees rated their experience as a highly positive one. Most attendees indicated that they would start attending more Wellness classes and implement mindfulness practices as a result of participating in Active Aging week. In the words of one of the attendees, "[I] loved every event that was listed. Your team went over the top. Great services for our communities. Thank you!”
