Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."
We launched our Active Aging Week with a presentation guiding participants on a Wellness Journey using a map that integrates the 8 Dimensions of Health & Wellness for successful aging. The Kalmar Nyckel, a full-scale replica of the colonial ship that brought European settlers to the Delaware Valley in 1638. Residents had the opportunity to step back in time, participating in hands-on nautical tasks like hoisting and setting sails, and experiencing colonial life firsthand. Many of the ship’s crew are senior volunteers, demonstrating their capability and sharing their extensive knowledge. Bocce Bowl 1 was a friendly competition of residents vs. management officiated by our resident Bocce Commissioner. This exciting event brought residents and staff together, proving that age is just a number, with many participants over 90. In the end management prevailed. Freedom Village Brandywine’s 3rd Annual Alzheimer’s campus walk united residents from all levels of care, staff, and families to raise money and awareness for this devastating disease. This event exemplifies the power of teamwork and community spirit. All residents, regardless of their level of care, were invited to partake in food, friends, and fun.
