Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."

The Holland Home community celebrated Active Aging Week by participating in Olympic themed events. Residents redefined aging by competing in Olympic games including basketball, badminton, archery, noodle hockey, bocce, shuffleboard, and golf. Staff promoted healthy lifestyles by encouraging residents to try new group exercise classes like Zumba Gold, Aqua Zumba, and cardio drumming. Residents gathered together in the “Olympic Village” to experience new foods from around the world that were curated by our skilled dining team. Residents grew spiritually while enjoying the health benefits of spending time outside during prayer walks. A variety of Olympic themed movies, documentaries, and travelogues offered engaging educational experiences. The week provided staff with opportunities to volunteer, celebrate the positivity of aging, and showcase their gifts by participating in the events. One highlight of the week was seeing the residents laugh with staff as they competed in comedic Olympic games like the whipped cream worm search (pictured below). We ended the week feeling empowered to continue creating a vibrant living environment to help those that live here thrive. Holland Home residents proved that regardless of age or physical condition, older adults can lead active, fulfilling lives.
