Heisinger Bluff residents accelerated their healthy living with a Highway to Health themed active aging week and intergenerational activities throughout the month of October. The week was designed with the sole purpose to incorporate the dimensions of wellness in fun and creative way. Residents began the week with “Go Green for Health.” They learned the benefits of leafy greens and made recycled magazine bowls while wearing green attire. They “Navigated Life’s Curve-balls” by participating in an invigorating ribbon workout and bowling outing while wearing sport apparel. Laughter was heard from their “Licensed to be Healthy” social where they challenged their minds to match license plates correctly and dressed their best for their driver’s license photo. They finished the week with the Highway to Health Fair where they received free screenings, massages, and sound meditation. The rest of the month was used to increase resident longevity by hosting more intergenerational activities with local schools. A local high school assisted our “Sewing with a Cause” group with stuffing pillows for ill children. Grade school students partnered with a resident to play our version of Generation Gap.
