Spanish Cove celebrated Active Aging Week with a variety of movement activities. Move your Body Bingo incorporated a movement/flexibility exercise with each found number taking a classic game and making it dynamic. Partnering with UCO nursing students to conduct Senior Fitness Testing, we tested 98 residents in strength, flexibility, agility, balance and cardiovascular endurance. The test components are standardized, and results are compared to the national average. The Mystery Dates band performed an outdoor concert which provided music, fellowship and dancing. An outing to Red Rock Canyon State Park offered multiple dimensions of wellness. Participants enjoyed finding their FLEX with stretching, a wellness walk/hike, fresh air and a picnic. Spanish Cove had three Dragon Boat Paddling teams compete in the OG&E Night Sprints Regatta. Of our 30 paddlers, four were in their 90’s, minimum criteria to paddle in the Wise senior division is age 55. Our two Co-Ed’s teams each won their heat, one by 0.6 seconds and the other by 0.3 seconds. Both races were photo finishes. The faster Co-ed team made it to the finals and won Bronze. The third boat was our female team including two paddlers in their 90’s and that team also won Bronze.
