Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."
At Tapestry at Wesbrook Village, Active Aging Week was celebrated by all with enthusiasm and keenness. This year, we took a whole-body wellness approach, focusing our energies on reaching all aspects of wellness; physical, social, environmental, intellectual, occupational, spiritual, and emotional. A highlight event created by our Kinesiologists was a community-wide scavenger hunt. Guided by clues, Residents walked to various parts of the Wesbrook Village Community in search of letters that would combine to spell the secret word, Community. Following the scavenger hunt and discovery of the secret word, a presentation about Social Isolation and Loneliness: The Importance of Community was held in the classroom for all residents to attend. Moreover, after receiving feedback from multiple residents we introduced Qigong, a form of martial art closely related to Tai Chi and due to overwhelming success, Qigong class is now apart of an array of weekly fitness classes offered. Beginner’s adaptive kickboxing, mindfulness beach walks, as well as a balloon volleyball tournament with our sister community, Tapestry Arbutus Walk were just a few of the featured events during Active Aging Week 2021. Encompassing all the elements of wellness allows for not only an active body but also an active mind.
