Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."
Spanish Cove redefined Active Aging week during these unique times by taking uncertainty and turning it into opportunity. Residents had the opportunity to “travel”, paint, try new exercise classes, learn, explore, volunteer and grow. We kicked off the week with our most popular trip and we never left campus. Our annual Red Rock Canyon trip was recreated with a wellness walk, cookout and a resident storyteller who narrated the history of the canyon. Resident, Dr. Esther Winterfeldt, hosted a Zoom and socially distanced, in-house Living Longer, Better program on Nutrition and Hydration for Immunity. We learned nutrition is the fuel to keep you moving, focusing and feeling good. A therapeutic watercolor class taught be a resident artist allowed residents creative expression to improve their mental, physical and emotional health. On-line Zoom Yoga and socially distanced functional fitness classes provided opportunity fun and flexibility in more ways than one. Despite a pandemic, residents found opportunities for purpose and passion through perseverance.
