Celebrating aging and the benefits of active living at any age, Active Aging Week showcases the capabilities of older adults as fully participating members of society. This campaign also spotlights role models that lead the way. Learn how you can join with thousands of Active Aging Week supporters to help change the way we age.
Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."
We started the week by watching the sunrise from our rooftop patio, followed by a Rise & Shine Kick-Off Breakfast, where we introduced our wellness activities planned for the week. We introduced Crack the Code; residents had to complete one wellness activity every day of the week to learn the word of the day, all 7 words made a sentence, that if completed they could enter for the grand prize draw. We hosted a brain wellness class, a technology class, and a boxing class all by Zoom. We introduced the Human Lending Library. And watched a series about centenarians living in Italy. Our big event was The Impossible Relay Race where teams of residents and staff compete against each other in a race like The Tough Mudder. We had 4 legs; Milk Run, The Grind, 2nd Narrows Bridge, and Bulls Eye. We recorded it all live so residents could watch on Zoom at home and in our Media Room. Residents helped man the stations. We had two amazing outings; UBC Botanical Gardens for the Canopy Walk and a Forest Bath in Pacific Spirit Park. We ended the week, watching a beautiful sunset.
