Spanish Cove Retirement Village
Tell us what you did during Active Aging Week to redefine the term "Active."
Spanish Cove kicked off Active Aging Week by participating in the Oklahoma Senior Games. Cove residents won gold medals in Horseshoes, corn hole and power walking. We travelled to Red Rock Canyon for a cookout and wellness walk. Residents enjoyed the food and fellowship and walked off the calories. The Cove line dancers performed a Garth Brooks tribute program for our assisted living and nursing care residents. They enjoyed watching their friends dance and loved the music. A panel of professionals presented an education seminar on cannabis. Cove residents spent weeks preparing and performed HEE HAW to a packed crowd of over 100 residents. Minnie Pearl would have been proud. Our week long finale was our Cove dragon boat paddling teams racing in the OG& E night sprints Regatta. Our all women team won Silver. Our Co-ed team won silver, losing gold by 1/3 of a second, which was the most exciting race of the night and they received a standing ovation from the crowd. Three of our paddlers over 90 years old, proving age is just a number. This was the best week featuring all the dimensions of wellness and highlighting what active aging looks like.
